Henry Nielsen
Ahead of his debut album, “Hollyhocks”, Henry Nielsen is doing something different from what you usually hear in the charts. Based in North London, he’s steering clear of the flashy production and fast-paced trends to create music that feels, honestly, like a well-worn denim jacket. It’s classic, comforting and lyrically focuses on the inner lives of his characters.

This type of music is built on a foundation of homespun folk-rock, known for favouring authentic, textured and natural room sound, especially for that warm and distinctly analogue instrumentation. This contemporary vintage sound is built by Henry Nielsen on vocals and guitar, Archie Owen on guitar and organ, Emmett Cruddas on bass, and Lloyd Haines on drums.

Using a specific mid-tier 1970s analogue aesthetic palette, "Beginning of the End" shares a conflict from Henry’s POV. It revolves around his missed connection, a broken relationship with someone that he’s trying to build by meeting halfway, but his desire to compromise is constantly at odds with the emotional tax of maintaining his independence. However, under the framework of this relationship, what Henry is dealing with is societal alienation.

It is indeed a tragic paradox: living on your own terms while moving through anxiety and isolation in society. The more you refine your own terms, the smaller the space becomes for anyone else to stand beside you.
